All Essential Oils have different and multiple therapeutic properties for various pathologies.
With this blog it is intented to provide information mainly about antiviric, antibacterial and antiseptics properties that have few Essential Oils. Also, they could be very useful with the current situation we are living with COVID-19.
Following the above, we emphasize that this tipe of Essential Oils, not only they have the antiviric properties to prevent contact (same fuction than the hydroalcoholic gel) but also they have properties that complement this action to combat symptoms. For example, antitussive (1) for cough or INMUNOSTIMULANT to reinforce our defenses.
For this you can take advantage of some essential oils with antibacterial and antiviral properties like:
Cedarwood atlas
Cedrus atlántica
Properties: anti-inflammatory, antiseborrheic, antiseptic, depurative, pectoral, regenerative, restorative, tonic.
Therapeutic uses: chest infections, catarrh, detoxifying, cellulite, anxiety, stress, tension, physical exhaustion, acne, scalp disorders.
Cupressus sempervirens
Properties: antispasmodic, antisudorific, antitussive, astringent, circulatory, diuretic, hepatic, restorative, vasoconstrictor (2), venous decongestant.
Therapeutic uses: varicose veins, fluis retention, hemorrhoids, congestive conditions, heavy and tired legs, edema, rheumatism, mentrual cramp, menopausal fatigue, hot flashes, cellulite, dry cough, bronchial spam, asthma, respiratory conditions.
CISTUS
Cistus ladaniferus
Properties: analgestic, antibacterial, antiseptic, antispasmodic, antiviral, calmative, cicatrizing, immunostimulant.
Therapeutic uses: viral infection, influenza (3), bronchial conditions, joint aches and pains, muscular pain, arthritis, cuts, wounds, spots, acne, stems bleeding, scarring, nervousness, tension, stress.
Eucalyptus globulus
Properties: analgesic, vermifuge (4), antibacterial, antifungal (5), anti-infectious, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antiputrescent, antirheumatic, antiseptic, antiviral, expectorant (6), febrifuge (7), pectoral.
Therapeutic uses: respiratory infections, bronchitis, fever, catarrh, sinusitis, muscular aches and pains, rheumatism, arthritis, urinary infection, cystitis, parasitic infection.
fennel, sweet
Foeniculum vulgare var. dulce
Properties: anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antispasmodic, carminative, depurative, diuretic, emmenagogue (8), expectorant, spasmolytic, stomachic, vermifuge.
Therapeutic uses: digestive disorders, colic, dyspepsia, gastrointestinal spasm, flatulence, nausea, constipation, IBS, abdominal spasm, menstrual problems, menstrual cramp, premenstrual syndrome, infertility, endometriosis, monopausal symptoms, detoxifying, cellulite, fluid retention, heavy legs, bronchitis, respiratory conditions, parasitic infecction.
Rosemary camphor
Rosmarinus officinalis
Properties: neuromuscular action, venous decongestant, anti-infectious mild, choleretic (9) and cholagogue (10), diuretic, emmenagogue.
Therapeutic uses: muscular cramp and contraction, heart weakness, hypotension, dyspepsia (11).
sage
Salvia officinalis
Properties: antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antispasmodic, antiviral, astringent, cholagogue, cicatrizing, expectorant, digestive, diuretic, emmenagogue, mucolytic (12), stomachic, tonic.
Therapeutic uses: arthritis, rheumatism, muscular aches and pains, muscular injury, tendonitis, painful joints, mentrual pain, menstrual cramp, menopausal symptoms, hot flashes, excess perspiration, varicose congestion, heavy and tired legs.
Thyme
Thymus zygis
Properties: analgesic, anthelmintic, antifungal, anti-infectious, antimicrobial, antiputrescent, antiseptic, antispasmodic, antiviral, immunostimulant, tonic, vermifuge.
Therapeutic uses: bacterial and viral skin infections, respiratory tract infection, catarrh, bronchitis, muscular spasm, infected and weeping wounds, herpers, chronic fatigue, mental fatigue.
Thyme linalool
Thymus vulgaris
Properties: analgesic, antibacterial, antifungal, anti-infectious, antiputrescent, antiseptic, antispasmodic, antiviral, expectorant, immunostimulant, pectoral, restorative, stimulant, tonic, vermifuge.
Therapeutic uses: inlfluenza, coughs, colds, bronchitis, sinusitis, rhinitis, laryngitis, sore throat, mucus congestion, viral and bacerial skin infection, cirulatory problems, cold limbs, numbness, muscular pain, tendonitis, arthritis, rheumatism, acne, warts, verrucas, lethargy, inability to concentrate.
Essential Oils never can be used directly, you must apply diluting previously with a carrier oil (mainly almond, hazelnut or others) to prevent skin irritations.
In case children out less than 5 years ols, during pregnancy, lactantion or if using multiple medication we recommend to ask you doctor before using them.
(1) Antitussive: that is used to suppress coughing.
(2) Vaso-constrictor: that causes constriction of the blood vessels, slowing blood circulation.
(3) Influenza: respiratory infection, contagious, caused by influenza virus.
(4) Vermifuge: serving to expel worms or other animal parasites from the intestines.
(5) Antifungal: that is used to fights fungi.
(6) Expectorant: promoting the discharge of phlegm or other fluid from the respiratory tract.
(7) Febrifuge: that is used to reduce fever
(8) Emmenagogue: that promotes menstrual discharge.
(9) Choleretic: that stimulates the liver to increase output of bile.
(10) Cholagogue: promoting the flow of bile.
(11) Dyspepsia: digestive disorder that appears after meals in the upper abdomen and that causes nausea, stomach pain, burning and flatulence.
(12) Mucolytic: decreases the viscosity of the bronchial secretion
